Lancashire boasts two major Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty: the Forest of Bowland, recognised for it unspoiled and richly diverse landscape of heather moorland and remote rugged walking; and Arneside and Silverdale, a mosaic of limestone hills, ancient woodland, grassland and coast. There are over 3,700 miles of public rights of way in the county, including a significant section of the Pennine Way National Trail as well as large areas of open access across remote moorland. For cyclists, there are many cycle tracks, including through the Lune and Ribble Valleys as well as the off road trails in Gisburn Forest for mountain bikers (Or the off limit roads in Manchester and Liverpool).
