- A good tent with poor instructions
31st August 2011
The instructions are pictorial to avoid translation costs but are not clear enough to get away with it - in the end you just have to guess what the best way to put the tent up is, which probably means it will take longer than would be needed with clear instructions. Definitely a tent where Stan's suggestion to practice pitching and striking the tent at least once before doing it for real should not be considered optional (I did it twice). Once properly pitched this is however a magnificant tent - I'm 6' 6'' and don't feel cramped (part of the versatility is you can combine two of the bedrooms into one - and I then sleep at right angles to the normal direction). Gelert tell me that they plan on posting videos on how to pitch their tents, as some of their competitors do, but I don't get the impression it is a high enough priority to happen any time soon. They did however (on request) send me pitching instructions that were not just pictures for an earlier model year of this tent, which was helpful (the tent has changed only slightly and I just ignored those bits). Haven't used the tent in heavy rain or high winds yet, but it has coped with light rain and a fair breeze without problems. Not a tent you could or should attempt to pitch in anything more than light winds.

A great tent that is fairly easy to put up. Loads of space for 5 adults and 2 children and everything we needed.

- If we bust it, I'd buy another!

My daughter and I ordered this tent and really struggled to put it up - the instructions were appalling. [...] we've just been to the Lake District for a week's camping with our kids and the tent was perfect - easy when you know how!We did need to split the tent poles into two bags - so heavy, but it is a huge tent! We love it and are off again next week.
