DofE Expedition Kit List
Posted on September 16, 2013 by Stan
It's Duke of Edinburgh time... otherwise known as DofE.
Those of you who are brave enough to get involved are going to need the
correct kit. It's essential for you to be fully prepared to get through your bronze, silver
and eventually gold award expeditions.
Here at Outdoor Megastore, we have experienced staff who will make sure that
you pick the correct gear. And at Outdoor Megastore, you WILL NOT pay through
the nose for your equipment - we will beat any price - anywhere (that has it in stock.)
Here's a quick list - this is by no means a comprehensive list. There's lots more
equipment you will need, but if you're doing DofE - you will already know this!
These are the items you will need when undertaking a DofE Expedition for any level of Award. This is to be used as a GUIDE only. Quantities of some items depends on level and duration of your expedition.
TO WEAR WALKING:
Walking boots (make sure you break this in beforehand-blister plasters)
Walking socks (take a few pairs to change when wet)
Thermal top or t shirt
Sweater (woollen or fleece) layering is best
Walking trousers (you can get zipped ones that turn into shorts)
PERSONAL KIT (TO CARRY):
Rucksack - remember - you will have to carry this for long periods of time
Waterproof bag for storing your sleeping bag
Sleeping bag liner
Notebook and pen/pencil
Torch - hand held and spare batteries (or head torch)
Emergency food rations
Knife, fork and spoon
Small pocket knife
Box of matches (in sealed container or waterproof bag)
Spare walking trousers or shorts
Pair of trainers
GROUP KIT - to carry between your team
Camping stove fuel
Plastic bags for rubbish
Washing up liquid
I know it may look like the list is endless - but remember, once you've bought your
kit it will last you through to your gold award!
Take into consideration the weather at all times.
Good luck to you all and I hope to see you in store soon.
By the way...any pictures of you either 'doing' your expedition or receiving your award
would look great on our facebook page ;-)
